У Центральній та Південній Америці вирує ураган під назвою Йота. В гірському районі регіону Матагальпа на півночі Нікарагуа в результаті урагану були зруйновані будинки. Йота спричинила в країні хаос: крім будинків, позносила мости, повикручувала дерева та стовпи, тим самим обірвавши системи зв’язку. Десятки тисяч людей були евакуйовані з їхніх домівок. Шторм не пощадив жодної країни регіону.
У понеділок Йота була класифікована як ураган 4 категорії, який вразив узбережжя Карибського басейну Нікарагуа поривами вітру 250 км/ год, але згодом утратив свою силу.
У ніч на понеділок в районі стався зсув, після чого очікується грязьова лавина, небезпечні для життя блискавки та виливання річок, – передає ABC News.

На острові Провіденсія, Колумбія, зруйнована майже вся інфраструктура, а тисячі сімей стали безпритульними. Уряд президента Колумбії Івана Дуке оголосив архіпелаг Сан-Андрес і Провіденсія районами, ураженими катастрофою. У Колумбії, як правило, повідомляється про сильні дощі, в результаті яких загинуло або зникло понад десяток людей.
У Панамі, Гватемалі та Сальвадорі також повідомляють про загиблих у результаті негоди. Шторм закрутився над Сальвадором у середу, проте, як очікується, у четвер він може перетворитись на дощ у частинах Гондурасу, Гватемали, Белізу, Нікарагуа та Сальвадору, – повідомляє Національний центр ураганів США (NHC).
Опади призведуть до значних, небезпечних для життя повеней та паводків на річках, у більш високих районах масштабні зливи, – зазначили в NHC. Також очікується, що високі хвилі обрушаться на більшу частину узбережжя Центральної Америки та півострів Юкатан у Мексиці. В Гондурасі влада оголосила червоне попередження, а основні траси країни в середу були перекриті.
Шторм поширився і на США, пошкодивши в штаті Невада десятки будинків.
