Csattiszgarhban gyakran alakul ki összecsapás a maoista naxaliták és a biztonsági erők között.
A naxaliták – akik Nyugat-Bengál állam Naxalbari nevű településéről kapták nevüket – több évtizede folytatnak fegyveres támadásokat a kormányerők ellen,
mint állítják, a legszegényebbek érdekében. Fegyvereseik sűrű erdőkben rejtőzködnek, ezekből indítják a támadásokat, de a szomszédos indiai államokban is jelen vannak.
A naxalita lázadásnak az utóbbi két évtizedben több mint 3300 halálos áldozata volt a régiós terrorizmussal foglalkozó South Asia Terrorism Portal szerint.

Majd hozzátette, hogy az utasok többsége huszonéves volt, s az elhunytak között egy hatéves kisfiú és egy tizenöt éves lány is van, míg a sebesültek közül legalább hatan kiskorúak, öt személy állapota pedig válságos.
Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra állam fő minisztere őszinte részvétét fejezte ki az áldozatok családjai felé, miután meglátogatta a sebesülteket abban a három kórházban, ahová az incidenst követően szállították őket.
Majd arra kérte az orvosokat, hogy tegyenek meg minden tőlük telhetőt, illetve biztosítsák a szükséges ellátást az érintetteknek, s Amit Shah indiai belügyminiszter is támogatásáról biztosította őket.

Összeomlott Indiában egy hindu szentély régi forráskútja fölé emelt épületrész csütörtökön, miközben számos hívő vett részt a szentélyben a Ráma isten tiszteletére tartott ünnepségen. A balesetben legalább 11 ember meghalt, a 18 sérültet kórházban ápolják – közölte a rendőrség.
Legkevesebb harmincöt ember zuhant a kútba és borították be őket a törmelékek a közép-indiai Madhja Prades állam Indaur nevű városában található szentélyben, miután az építmény összeomlott – közölte Makrand Deoszkar rendőrfelügyelő.
A kút valószínűleg a hatalmas embertömeg súlya miatt szakadt be. Sivradzs Sohan, Madhja Prades állam főminisztere, egyben parlamenti képviselő, vizsgálatot rendelt el a baleset ügyében.
Helyi sajtójelentések szerint a szentély vezetői évek óta nem használták a kutat, és a most összeomlott építménnyel fedték be.
Indiában gyakoriak az épületomlások a rossz építkezési technika és a szabályzatok figyelmen kívül hagyása miatt.
2022 októberében egy százéves függőhíd omlott össze a nyugat-indiai Gudzsarát államban, ekkor több százan zuhantak a Makcsu folyóba, és legkevesebb 132 ember veszítette életét. Ez volt az elmúlt évtized egyik legsúlyosabb balesete Indiában.

Az indiai adóhatóság házkutatást tartott a BBC brit közszolgálati médium újdelhi és mumbai irodájában – közölték a hatóság munkatársai. A műsorszolgáltató a múlt héten egy Narendra Modi indiai miniszterelnökkel szemben kritikus dokumentumfilmet sugárzott Nagy-Britanniában.
The Modi Question (A Modi-kérdés) című kétrészes dokumentumfilmben a többi között azt vizsgálják: milyen szerepet játszott a szubkontinens kormányfője a 2002-es gudzsaráti muszlimellenes zavargásokban. Akkor ő volt az állam miniszterelnöke – emlékeztet a bbc.
Modinak azt vetik a szemére, hogy sem ő, sem pedig az állam hindu nacionalistákból álló vezetése nem lépett fel elég hatékonyan a nyugat-indiai állam hindu és muszlim lakosai között kirobbant harcok megfékezéséért.
Bár a dokumentumfilmet csak az Egyesült Királyságban sugározták a televízióban, az indiai kormány megpróbálta megakadályozni az online megosztását Indiában, „ellenséges propagandának és India-ellenes szemétnek” nevezve azt, amely „gyarmatosító gondolkodásmódot tükröz”.
Az NDTV indiai hírtelevízió – amely az intézkedést élőben közvetítette az épületnél – úgy tudja: a hatóságok több munkatárs telefonját elkobozták. A BBC közölte, hogy teljes mértékben együttműködik a hatóságokkal.
Az ellenzéki Kongresszus párt főtitkára, KC Venugopal szerint a házkutatás „kétségbeesést sugall, és azt mutatja, hogy a Modi-kormány fél a kritikától”.
Gaurav Bhatia, Modi kormányzó Bharatiya Dzsanata Pártjának (BJP) szóvivője azonban a BBC-t a világ legkorruptabb szervezetének nevezte. „India olyan ország, amely minden szervezetnek lehetőséget ad, amíg nem ontja a mérget” – mondta. Hozzátette, hogy a házkutatások törvényesek voltak, és az időzítésnek semmi köze a kormányhoz.
Nemcsak a dokumentumfilm sugárzását, hanem a közösségi média vele kapcsolatos híreit is betiltották Indiában. A rendőrség januárban őrizetbe vett több diákot, akik a tilalom ellenére megnézték a filmet.

Több mint kétezer embert vettek őrizetbe pénteken Észak-Indiában illegális gyermekházasságok elleni razziákon – közölte a rendőrség.
Az ENSZ adatai szerint Indiában több mint 220 millió kiskorú feleség él, de a gyermekházasságok száma jelentősen csökkent a század eleje óta. Asszám államban kéthetes razziasorozatba kezdtek a hatóságok, és ez az állam főminiszterének, Himanta Biszva Szarmának a felhívásával kezdődött, amelyben ő a közösség segítségét kérte a „káros gyakorlat” megszüntetéséhez.
Szarma szerint Asszámban szinte minden nyolcadik nő a 18. életéve előtt esik teherbe, ami jelentősen növeli a gyermekek és az anyák halálozási rátáját. GP Szingh, az állami rendőrség főigazgatója bejelentette, hogy 2044 embert vettek őrizetbe, közöttük ötvenkét pap és helyi vezető volt, akik lehetővé tették a gyermeklányok házasságkötését.
Szingh elmondta, hogy a lányokat már 12 éves korukban felnőtt férfiakhoz adják feleségül. A rendőrség 4074 olyan esetet tárt fel, amelyek vizsgálatot igényelnek.
Indiában 18 éves kortól engedélyezett a házasságkötés, de ma is több millió gyermeket kényszerítenek ennél fiatalabb korban házasságra, főként a szegény falvakban.
Az ilyen házasság következményei nagyon károsak lehetnek, mert a lányoknak abba kell hagyniuk a tanulást, hogy főzzenek és ellássák a háztartást a férjük mellett, és gyakran szenvednek a kamaszkori terhesség okozta egészségügyi problémáktól is. 2017-ben az indiai legfelsőbb bíróság megállapította, hogy kiskorúval fenntartott nemi kapcsolat akkor is nemi erőszaknak minősül, ha a pár házas.

Közel 200 ember sérült meg vágások és esések következtében, miközben sárkányt eregettek a gudzsaráti Uttarayan fesztiválon – írja a Daily Mail.
Több esetben az ünneplők éles zsinórokat használtak a sárkányok röptetéséhez, amelyek végül az áldozatok nyaka köré tekeredtek, és úgy elvágták őket, hogy az áldozatok elvéreztek.
Bhávnagar városában egy sárkányzsinór vágta el a kétéves Kirti nyakát, aki édesapjával együtt utazott a kétkerekűjén, és vasárnap a kórházi kezelés során meghalt.

A hét eleje óta legalább 81-en haltak bele pancsolt szesz fogyasztásába, az áldozatok száma tovább nőhet – számolt be a kelet-indiai Bihar államban történt tragédia fejleményeiről az All India Radio állami rádióállomás szombaton.
A mérgező alkohol fogyasztása okozta halálozásról először kedden adtak hírt, a hét közepén pedig 31-nél tartott a halálos áldozatok száma.
Azóta ez a szám többszörösére növekedett. Jelenleg 30 embert ápolnak kórházban az állam különböző körzeteiben, közülünk 12-en súlyos állapotban vannak. A rádió beszámolt arról, hogy eddig 25-en vakultak meg a pancsolt szesz fogyasztása miatt.
Rajes Mína, a Bihar állambeli Szaran körzet bírója elmondta, hogy az ügyben eddig 213 embert vettek őrizetbe, sőt két rendőrtisztet is felmentettek munkájuk alól, az egyiküket vezetői pozíciójából.
Az államban 2016 óta tilos az alkohol fogyasztása és az kereskedelme, miután nőaktivista csoportok rámutattak, hogy az így is szegénységben élő munkások csekély jövedelmük nagy részét alkoholra költik. A tilalom miatt azonban sokan halnak bele a helytelenül és illegálisan előállított és fogyasztott alkoholba. India szövetségi emberi jogi bizottsága felhívást intézett a Bihar állam kormányzata felé a héten kirobbant tragédia miatt, kiemelve, hogy 2016 áprilisa óta nem sikerült hatékonyan bevezetnie az alkoholfogyasztásra és -kereskedelemre vonatkozó szabályokat, ez pedig súlyos emberveszteséghez vezetett.
