A hindu istennő szobrának eltűnését a Nadanapureshwarar Sivan templomból 1971-ben jelentették először, a nyomozás viszont 2019-ben kezdődött, amikor a templom egyik dolgozója panaszt nyújtott be. A nyomozást az indiai rendőrségen úgynevezett Idol Wing, azaz a „bálvány szárny” vezette. A bálvány értéke körülbelül 212,5 ezer dollár, azaz hozzávetőlegesen 82,1 millió forint.
