A május elsején történt szerencsétlenséget hajtóműhiba okozta. A gép az Amazonas tartománybeli Araracuara és a Guaviare tartománybeli San Jose del Guaviare városa közötti útvonalon haladt, amikor megtörtént a baj. A Cessna 206 típusú repülőgépen heten tartózkodtak, közülük három felnőtt meghalt, egy 13, egy 9 és egy 4 éves gyermek, valamint egy 11 hónapos csecsemő viszont túlélte a katasztrófát. A híradásokból kiderült, hogy a pilóta és a gyermekek édesanyja is életét vesztette.

A repülőgépet hétfőn találták meg orral a sűrű növényzetbe csapódva. A hatóságok először azt jelentették be, hogy megtalálták a pilóta holttestét, illetve hozzátették, hogy a másik hat utasnak nyoma veszett.
A gyermekek felkutatására mentőakciót indítottak, katonák, tűzoltók és a polgári légiközlekedési hatóság munkatársai is részt vettek a keresésben. A kutatást repülőgépek és helikopterek bevetésével, valamint keresőkutyák segítségével végezték. A gyermekek a dzsungelben talált gyümölcsökkel táplálkoztak az elmúlt több mint két hétben. A nyomok alapján még rögtönzött menedékhelyeket is készítettek a dzsungel növényzetéből.
„A hadseregünk által végzett fáradságos keresés után élve találtuk meg azt a négy gyermeket, akik egy guaviare-i repülőgép-szerencsétlenség után tűntek el. Nagy öröm ez az egész ország számára” – írta a Twitteren a kolumbiai elnök.

A szervezet kiemelte: bár a Mocha már elhagyta a két délkelet-ázsiai országot, még mindig nagy a földcsuszamlások kockázata, egészségügyi hatóságok pedig vízi úton terjedő betegségektől tartanak.
Catherine Russell, az UNICEF főigazgatója rámutatott arra, hogy a ciklon éppen azokat a közösségeket sújtotta leginkább, melyek már korábban s „megtapasztalták a konfliktusok, a szegénység, a bizonytalanság, valamint a klímaváltozás okozta nehézségeket”.
Mianmarban több mint 16 millió embert – köztük 5,6 millió gyereket – érinthetett a ciklon és utóhatásai, elsősorban a nyugati Arakán államban és környékén.
Bangladesben, ahol a világ legnagyobb – és legzsúfoltabb – menekülttáborának számító Cox’s Bazar is található, egymillió, Mianmarból elmenekült rohingja muszlim, köztük 500 ezer gyerek kerülhetett a vihar útjába.
Bár a táboron a ciklon szeme nem söpört végig, a menekültek számára kiépített infrastruktúra megrongálódott.
Az UNICEF egyúttal bejelentette, további segélyszállítmányokat küld az érintett térségekbe.
A Mocha vasárnap ért partot Bangladesnél és Mianmarnál. Az ENSZ Humanitárius Ügyeket Koordináló Hivatala (OCHA) felhívta a figyelmet arra, hogy már a ciklon okozta pusztítás előtt is mintegy hatmillióan szorultak humanitárius segítségre a térségben.

„A brutális szudáni harcoknak katasztrofális hatásuk van a gyerekekre” – hangoztatta Catherine Russell, az UNICEF főigazgatója. Figyelmeztetett, hogy ezreknek volt részük megrázó élményekben s egyelőre bizonytalan a traumatizált gyerekek helyzete.
Az ENSZ közlése szerint az április 15-én kitört harcokban eddig legalább hatszáz ember vesztette életét és legkevesebb 5100-an sebesültek meg, bár félő, hogy a valós számok túlmutatnak a rendelkezésre álló adatokon. A szembenálló felek, az állami hadsereg élén álló Abdel Fattáh al-Burhán, Szudán de facto elnöke és a rivális félkatonai Gyorsreagálású Támogató Erők (RSF) között többször is született megállapodás tűzszünetről, ezek azonban jellemzően kudarcba fulladtak.
A felek ugyanakkor pénteken sikeresen megállapodtak a polgári lakosság védelméről és arról, hogy lehetővé teszik a humanitárius segélyezést, valamint lehetőséget adnak a lakosság számára, hogy eltemessék halottaikat.

Tizenegymillió gyerek szorul humanitárius segélyekre a polgárháború sújtotta Jemenben az ENSZ Gyermekalapjának (UNICEF) pénteki bejelentése szerint.
A szervezet arra figyelmeztetett, hogy mintegy 2,2 millió jemeni gyerek alultáplált, a helyzet pedig azonnali beavatkozás nélkül tovább súlyosbodhat.
Az alultápláltság már több mint 450 ezer gyerek esetében öltött életveszélyes méreteket, nekik sürgős segítségre van szükségük – tette hozzá az UNICEF. A szervezet emellett rámutatott arra, hogy a harcoknak 2015 és 2022 között több mint 11 ezer gyerek vált áldozatává.
A polgárháború és a nyomában kialakult humanitárius válság miatt egyre több gyerek kényszerül dolgozni és nőtt a gyerekházasságok száma is, sok család ugyanis csak így tudja biztosítani megélhetését. Egyre több kiskorút toboroznak emellett a hadseregbe és milíciákba is – áll a szervezet tájékoztatásában.
