Jehova Tanúi hívők százai gyűltek össze imaórára a Kerala államban lévő Kalamassery városában lévő Zamra Nemzetközi Kongresszusi Központban, amikor váratlanul felrobbant a robbanószerkezet.

Az NDTV azt írja, már 13 halálos áldozata van a legutóbbi vonatszerencsétlenségnek. A halottak mellett 40 sérültről tudni, akik Andhra Pradeshban szenvedtek balesetet, miután egy személyvonat a jelzés ellenére továbbhajtott, majd belerohant egy másik vonatba vasárnap este.

Az Egészségügyi Világszervezet szerint a Nipah-vírus fertőzés egy zoonózisos betegség, amely állatokról, például sertésekről és denevérekről terjed az emberre. A vírus fertőzött élelmiszerrel és a fertőzött személlyel való érintkezés során is továbbítható.
A vírussal fertőzötteknél néha nem mutatkoznak észrevehető tüneteket, míg mások akut légzőszervi problémák jeleit mutatják. Súlyos esetekben a Nipah-fertőzés encephalitishez, az agyat érintő súlyos betegséghez vezethet.
A vírussal fertőzöttek halálozási aránya magas, mivel nincs gyógyszer vagy vakcina a fertőzés kezelésére, ami a tünetek enyhítésére és általános kezelésre korlátozódik.

Újabb tömegtragédia történt Indiában, ezúttal egy lángokba borult vonatfülke miatt, melynek körülmények nem teljesen tisztázottak.
Eddig legkevesebb 10 áldozatról tudni, akik életüket vesztették a tűzben. Az áldozatok mellett több mint 20 sérültről jelentettek, akiket kórházba szállítottak. Egyelőre nem tudni, hogy a sérültek milyen állapotban vannak, így lehetnek még áldozatok.
A Déli Vasút közlése szerint egy illegális gázpalack vezethetett a tűzhöz, ami a vonatkocsin volt a baleset idején. A rendőrség jelenleg is vizsgálja a körülményeket, és nem kizárt, hogy lehetnek letartóztatások.
A tűz oltatásában a vasúti személyzet mellett a rendőrség, a tűzoltóság és a mentőszolgálat is részt vett. 10 emberen már semmilyen körülmények között nem tudtak segíteni, és a lángokat csak két órával később oltották el.
Reggel 5 óra 15 perckor csaptak fel a lángok, majd a fél órával később a helyszínre érkező tűzoltók 7 óra 15 perckor teljesen eloltották a tüzet. A hivatalos közleményben foglaltak szerint egy privát kocsi gyulladt ki, amit azt egyik állomáson csatoltak hozzá a többihez, és akkor csempészhették fel a gázpalackot.
Az NDTV azt írja, az utasok többsége a tüzet észlelve ki tudott szállni a kocsiból, néhányan már a peronon leszálltak, mielőtt a kocsit lecsatolták volna. A közlemény szerint az elhunytak családjai kártérítést kapnak.

Mintegy százezer embert evakuáltak a kelet-pakisztáni Pandzsáb tartomány elárasztott falvaiból, miután India vasárnap több százezer köbméter vizet eresztett a két ország közötti határfolyó tározóiba – számoltak be szerdán a helyi mentőszolgálatok.
A tartományban több száz falut elöntött a Szatledzs folyó, és több ezer hektárnyi mezőgazdasági terület, különösen ültetvények pusztultak el.
„Százezer embert mentettünk ki és szállítottunk biztonságosabb helyekre” – mondta Faruk Ahmad, a pandzsábi mentőszolgálat szóvivője szerdán az AFP-nek.
„Az áradásokat okozó, özönvízszerű monszunesőzéseket követően India vasárnap másodpercenként közel 85 ezer köbméternyi többletvizet eresztett a Szatledzs tározóiba” – mondta Mohszin Nakvi, a pandzsábi kormány vezetője, aki szerint ez a folyón lejjebb, a pakisztáni oldalon áradást okozott.
