Az al-Shabaab terrorszervezet mintegy negyven harcosával és parancsnokával végzett a szomáliai hadsereg – közölték a helyi hatóságok vasárnap.
A Szomália déli részén, a kenyai határ közelében található Afmadow környékén zajló bevetésben egy külföldi partnerország is részt vett.
A mogadishui kormány ellen több mint egy évtizede fegyveres felkelést folytató, az al-Kaida terrorhálózattal kapcsolatban álló al-Shabaab célja, hogy kiűzze az Afrikai Unió békefenntartóit az országból, megdöntse a Nyugat támogatását élvező kabinet hatalmát, és bevezesse az iszlám radikális értelmezésén alapuló jogrendet, a saríát Szomáliában.
Haszán Sejk Mohamud szomáliai államfő tavaly „totális háborút” hirdetett a dzsihadistákkal szemben, a kormányerők offenzíváit pedig alkalmanként az Egyesült Államok is támogatja.
A 16 millió lakosú Szomáliából 2024 végéig kivonulnak az Afrikai Unió békefenntartói, akik eddig hat katonai támaszpontot adtak át a szomáliai hadseregnek.

Több mint 100, az al-Shabaab terrorszervezethez tartozó fegyveressel végeztek a szomáliai kormányerők pénteken az afrikai ország középső részén – közölték szomáliai katonai források.
A harcokat Galgudud térségéből jelentették, ahol napok óta összecsapások zajlanak egy, a katonaság által néhány napja visszafoglalt katonai támaszpont körül.
A bázist a szomáliai hadsereg amerikai kiképzésben részesült egysége irányítja, az ellene intézett támadást visszaverték, a tűzharcban életét vesztette a támaszpont parancsnokhelyettese is.
A közelben lakók a sajtónak azt mondták, a támaszpontról több robbanást is hallottak, a bázis egyik tisztje pedig azt közölte, a terroristák ellen harci drónokat is bevetettek.
Az iszlamisták jelentkeztek az akció elkövetőiként, és bár a támaszpontot nem sikerült visszafoglalniuk, sikeresnek minősítették akciójukat. Szóvivőjük szerint több mint 150 katonát öltek meg.
A szomáliai vezetés tavaly augusztusban indított offenzívát az al-Shabaab ellen, s azóta a hadsereg a helyi klánok és felfegyverzett civilek segítségével jelentős területeket foglalt vissza az iszlamistáktól. A műveleteket Törökország és az Egyesült Államok drónokkal támogatja. Újévi köszöntőjében Hassan Sheikh Mohamud szomáliai elnök azt ígérte, hogy 2023 során teljesen megsemmisítik a terroristaszervezetet.

Legalább hat civilt megöltek egy szomáliai kávézó elleni öngyilkos merényletben szombaton – közölte a helyi rendőrség.

A támadás célpontja Ali Wardheere helyi kormányzó volt, aki éppen a kávézóban ült. Ő túlélte a merényletet, két testőre azonban megsebesült.
Az al-Shabaab online közleményben vállalta magára a támadást. A nyilatkozatban megerősítették, hogy valóban a kormányzó meggyilkolását tűzték ki célul.
Az al-Kaida nemzetközi terrorszervezetnek 2012-ben hűséget fogadó al-Shabaab célja az, hogy kiűzze az Afrikai Unió békefenntartóit Szomáliából, megdöntse a nyugat által támogatott mogadishui kormányt, és iszlám jogrendet vezessen be az országban.
