A kongói kormány államháztartási felügyeletének jelentése szerint nem található több mint 400 millió dollár adóelőleg és kölcsön, amit a Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaság állami bányászati vállalata, a Gécamines befizetett az államkincstárba.
A Gécamines állami bányász kisebbségi részesedéssel rendelkezik a világ több legnagyobb réz- és kobaltprojektjében. A vállalatot régóta érik korrupciós vádak nem kormányzati szervek és ellenzéki politikusok részéről. A Gécamines mindig tagadta, hogy törvénytelen tevékenységet folytatna, viszont a legutóbbi vádakra nem reagált a cég főtitkára.
A Gécamines olyan beszámolókat küldött a Pénzügyi Főfelügyelőség (IGF) könyvvizsgálóinak, amik több mint 591 millió dollár adóelőlegről és a kongói államnak nyújtott kölcsönökről szóltak. Később az IGF könyvvizsgálói csak 178 millió dollárt tudtak visszavezetni a kincstár számláira – írta meg a Reuters.
Egy május 31-én kelt, nem nyilvános jelentés szerint 413 millió dollár hiányzik a rendszerből. Feltehetően jogtalanul tulajdonították el, ez ügyben a könyvvizsgálók továbbra is nyomoznak. Az nem derült ki, hogy a szóban forgó előlegeket és kölcsönöket mikor nyújtották.
A jelentésben az áll, hogy a Gécamines egy réz- és kobaltprojekt aláírási bónuszaként kifizetett további 175 millió dollár sem vezethető vissza a kincstárhoz.
A Gécamines évente nagyjából 500 ezer tonna rezet termelt ki az 1980-as években. Azóta súlyosan eladósodott a cég és nagyobb bányái többségi részesedését már eladta. Amikor 2019-ben Felix Tshisekedi elnök hatalomba lépett leváltotta a Gécamines vezetését a korrupciós vádak miatt.

A Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaság keleti részén fekvő Goma városát kedden erős utórengések rázták meg, amelynek közelében múlt szombaton tört ki a Nyiragongo vulkán. A vulkánkitörés halálos áldozatainak száma 32-re emelkedett, 40 embert eltűntként kezelnek, több ezren vesztették el az otthonukat – írja az AFP.
Három nappal azután, hogy Afrika legaktívabb vulkánja kitört, a lávafolyam elérte a 1,5-2 milliós Goma külvárosát. 10-15 perces időközönként újabb rengések rázták meg a régiót, az utakon több centiméter széles repedések keletkeztek. A városban jelenleg is nagy a zűrzavar.
„Sokan nem tudják, hogy mit tegyenek. Néhányan visszajönnek, néhányan elmennek, az emberek még mindig félnek” – mondta egy helyi lakos. A kitörés óta tízezrek menekültek el Gomából, sokan közülük a szomszédos Ruandában próbálnak menedéket találni. A lávafolyam elvágta a Goma és Butembo közötti utat, az Észak-Kivu tartomány fő útvonalát.
„Harminckét ember halt meg a kitöréssel kapcsolatban, hét embert a láva ölt meg, öten pedig a mérgező gázok miatt fulladtak meg” – közölte az ENSZ menekültügyi szervezete, az UNHCR.
Raphael Tenaud, a Vöröskereszt Nemzetközi Bizottságának (ICRC) gomai küldöttségének helyettes vezetője elmondta, hogy a láva négy nagy falut teljesen elpusztított. A humanitárius csoportok becslései szerint 900 és 2500 közötti lakás semmisült meg, vagyis legalább ötezer ember otthona – mondta.
A Nyiragongo a Kelet-Afrikai hasadékvölgy nyugati ágán található a Virunga térségben. Közelében emelkedik egy másik aktív tűzhányó, a Nyamulagira. Ebben a térségben a kontinentális kőzetlemezt a széthúzásos feszültség két irányba húzza, ami miatt időszakonként felhasad a kőzettest, akár a felszínen is, és ezt általában magmafeláramlás és vulkánkitörés kíséri.

A Nyiragongo vulkántól mintegy tíz kilométerre fekvő Goma városát eddig nagyrészt megkímélte a természeti csapás, a hegyről leömlő, izzó lávafolyamok a jelek szerint megálltak vasárnap a repülőtértől és a városhatártól néhány száz méterre – jelentette a Reuters tudósítója. A környező falvakat azonban elérte a láva, s a hatóságok arra figyelmeztettek, hogy a veszély még nem múlt el.
A Nyiragongo a világ egyik legaktívabb vulkánja. A szombat esti kitörés után pánik tört ki a mintegy kétmillió lakosú városban. Emberek ezrei menekültek gyalog a holmijukkal együtt, néhányan a ruandai határon át. A láva elzárta a Gomát az északi városokkal összekötő főutat. A forgalom összeomlott a metropoliszban és környékén. Sokan megpróbálták elhagyni a várost, mások visszatértek, hogy felmérjék az otthonaikban keletkezett károkat.
A kormányszóvivő szerint kilenc ember a kialakult pánikhoz köthető közlekedési balesetekben halt meg. Négy ember vesztette életét, amikor megpróbált megszökni a helyi börtönből. Két ember halálra égett.
A Nyiragongo utoljára 2002-ben tört ki. Akkor 250 ember halt meg, és 120 ezren váltak hajléktalanná.

A Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaság keleti részén szombaton tört ki a Nyiragongo-hegy vulkánja, amely a világ egyik legaktívabb tűzhányója, a közeli Goma városban pánik hangulat alakult ki és az emberek menekülni kezdtek.
Egy helyi vulkanológus szerint a várost nem fenyegeti veszély. Az emberek kisebb személyes tárgyaikat megragadva menekültek a szomszédos Ruandával közös határ felé, miközben a város fölött vörösen izzott az ég. A település nagy részén nem volt áram, a telefonvonalak pedig folyamatosan foglaltak jelzést adtak. A kiömlő láva elvágta a Gomától északra vezető főutat.
Dario Tedesco, a mintegy kétmilliós tóparti városban élő vulkanológus a Reutersnek brit hírügynökségnek azt mondta, hogy Goma nem tűnik veszélyeztetettnek, a láva kelet felé, a ruandai határ irányába áramlik.
Egy ENSZ-forrás szerint a világszervezett egyik helikoptere a térségben felderítő repülést végzett. Ebből az derült ki, hogy a folyékony és izzó kőzet nem Goma vagy bármely nagyobb lakossági központ felé terjed.
A vulkánból kiáramló láva nem sokkal később elérte a vulkán déli lejtőjén fekvő Goma város repülőterét – közölte egy helyi tisztviselő, aki szerint a helyzet súlyosbodott. Hozzátette, a korábbi, a ruandai határ felé tartó, északkeleti lávafolyam mellett egy másik is megjelent. Ez érte el Goma repülőterét, és folyamatosan tart a Kivu-tó felé tart.
A Nyiragongo legutóbb 2002-ben tört ki, akkor a láva Goma felé áramlott, 250 ember meghalt, 120 ezer pedig hajléktalanná vált.

Az afrikai ország történetében immár tizenkettedik ebolajárvány, amely a Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaság keleti részén február elején tört ki, véget ért – közölte hétfőn a kongói egészségügyi minisztérium.
A tárca vezetője, Jean-Jacques Mbungani leszögezte: a járványt a Kongóban is pusztító koronavírus-pandémia és az ország keleti részén uralkodó rossz biztonsági helyzet ellenére sikerült gyorsan, alig néhány hónap alatt megfékezni.
A járvány Észak-Kivu tartományban ütötte fel a fejét, hivatalos adatok szerint 12 fertőzöttje és hat halálos áldozata volt. Az újabb hullámot az Orvosok Határok Nélkül (MSF) civil szervezet közlése szerint a Merck gyógyszercég által gyártott ebola elleni vakcinával fékezték meg.
Az oltóanyagot több mint 1600, a fertőzöttekkel, valamint a kontaktszemélyekkel kapcsolatba került embernek adták be. Az egészségügyi tárca novemberben jelentette be a tizenegyedik hullám végét.
Az ország történetének második legsúlyosabb, 2018-tól 2020-ig tartó, több mint 2200 halálos áldozattal járó ebolajárványát szintén Észak-Kivuból jelentették, a bejelentés szerint a most véget ért hullám vírusának génállománya ezzel a járvánnyal mutatja a legnagyobb hasonlóságot.
A betegséget 1976-ban, a Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaság keleti felében található Ebola folyó melletti településeken észlelték először. A vírus természetes hordozói egyelőre nem ismertek, a legvalószínűbb, hogy a denevérekről terjedt át emberekre a kórokozó.
A betegség fertőzött ember vagy állat testnedvével történő közvetlen érintkezés által terjed. A betegség súlyos vérzéssel jár, a halálozási arány egyes esetekben akár 90 százalékos is lehet.

A Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaság központi részén kitört etnikai összecsapások során tizenhárom embert fejeztek le bozótvágó késsel – közölte kedden a Kasai tartomány egészségügyi minisztere, Ferdinand Mposhamba.
Az összecsapások a Kasai és Közép-Kasai tartomány határán található Bakuakenge településén törtek ki hétfőn. A villongásokban legalább kilencen megsebesültek.
Mposhamba szerint mintegy száz lakóépület semmisült meg és két malmot gyújtottak fel. A térségből húszezren menekültek el. Dieudonne Pieme Tutokot kasai kormányzó arról számolt be, hogy értesülések szerint a kuba és a lubaphone etnikai csoportok közötti összecsapás kiváltó oka az ENSZ Élelmezési Világprogramjának (WFP) segélyeinek elosztása volt.
Tutokot hivatalos vizsgálatot sürgetett az ügyben.
Az Iszlám Állam terrorszervezettel kapcsolatban álló, Szövetséges Demokratikus Erők (ADF) nevű lázadócsoport huszonöt civilt rabolt el szombat reggel Kainama településéről. Heten továbbra is az ADF foglyai.
Az ugandai eredetű ADF-et azzal vádolják, hogy 2014 óta ezrek, köztük ENSZ-békefenntartók haláláért felelős.

Egy részeg katona tizenkét embert agyonlőtt és kilenc másikat megsebesített a Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaságban – közölte pénteken Dél-Kivu tartomány kormányzója, Theo Kasi.
A lövöldözés csütörtök este történt a burundi határtól 24 kilométerre található Sange településen. Az elkövető szökésben van, a biztonsági erők keresik. Felix Tshisekedi elnök elvetemült bűncselekménynek minősítette a történteket, és részvétét nyilvánította az áldozatok hozzátartozóinak.

A Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaság keleti részében két éve kitört ebolajárvány hivatalos bejelentés szerint is véget ért.
„A mai nap a válság végét ünnepeljük” – jelentette ki csütörtökön az ebolajárvány elleni kongói erőfeszítéseket vezető Jean-Jacques Muyembe mikrobiológus.
Matshidiso Moeti, az Egészségügyi Világszervezet (WHO) afrikai régióért felelős igazgatója szerint az egyik legfontosabb tanulság az volt, hogy a lakosságot is be kell vonni a járvány elleni küzdelembe. Mint mondta, mindez a koronavírus-pandémia szempontjából is rendkívül fontos.
Az ország keleti részén 3463 ember fertőződött meg ebolával, közülük 2280-an elhunytak a kórban.
Az ország túlterhelt egészségügyi rendszere egyébként egyszerre több járvánnyal is kénytelen megbirkózni: nyugaton egy újabb ebolajárvány tört ki eddig legalább 17 esettel és 11 halottal, a kanyaró több mint hatezer emberéletet követelt, a koronavírusnak pedig 142-en estek áldozatul, a fertőzöttek száma meghaladja a 6400-at.
„Továbbra is rendkívül aggasztó a gyenge egészségügyi ellátórendszer és annak infrastruktúrája” – közölte Louis Dorvilier, a Welthungerhilfe német élelmezési segélyszervezet országigazgatója.

A Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaságban a nyugati Mbandaka városában új ebolajárványgóc alakult ki. Ez a góc több mint ezer kilométerre található az ország keleti felében lévőtől – jelentette be Kinshasában Eteni Longondo egészségügyi miniszter hétfőn.
A tárcavezető szerint Mbandakában eddig négy halott szervezetében mutatták ki a halálos vírust.
„Megerősíthetem, hogy van egy új ebolajárványgócunk Mbandakában” – közölte Longondo újságírókkal. „Nagyon gyorsan küldjük oda az oltóanyagot és gyógyszert” – tette hozzá.
Tedrosz Adhanom Gebrejeszusz, az Egészségügyi Világszervezet (WHO) főigazgatója Twitter-üzenetben szintén megerősítette az új ebolajárványt. Az afrikai ország 2018 augusztusától küszködik az immáron tizedik ebolajárvánnyal, amely azóta 2200 ember halálát okozta a Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaságban.
Az ebola április közepén ismét megjelent, néhány nappal azelőtt, hogy a kinshasai vezetés hivatalosan kihirdette volna a járvány végét. Ugyanakkor az utóbbi 30 napban nem jelentettek új fertőzöttet az ország keleti feléből.

Megszökött egy ebola vírussal fertőzött Kongóban egy klinikáról, és félő, hogy újra elszabadulhat a járvány – adta hírül vasárnap az Egészségügyi Világszervezet (WHO).
Az illető egy 28 éves, motorostaxis férfi. Beni városában szökött el a klinikáról, miután pénteken megállapították, hogy fertőzött.
Rajta kívül még öt ismert ebolás fertőzöttje van jelenleg Kongónak, amely a múlt héten kis híján bejelentette, hogy mentes az ebolától, mivel április 10-ig több mint hét héten át nem akadt újabb ebolás eset. Csak két nap volt hátra a közlésig, amikor felfedeztek egy újabb kisebb gócot.
Az afrikai ország 2018 augusztusától küszködik az ebolával, amely azóta 2200 emberrel végzett a Kongói Demokratikus Köztársaságban. A lakosok körében jó pár közösség úgy hiszi, nincs is járvány.
A koronavírus-ragály nem kerülte el Kongót sem. Eddig 327 bizonyított fertőzött van az országban, a vírus 25 emberrel végzett.
